Hi I'm Margo and I am passionate about Hats, Jewellery and dressing up! I started my journey in hatmaking in the 1990's when I got my first job at Patey London ltd, helping to make traditional hats like top hats, Beefeaters hats and the Lord Mayor's hat. I learned the traditional ways to hand block and sew hats and this made me appreciate the traditional techniques involved in this historical industry in the UK.
I moved on to working for the prestigious Queen's milliner at the time, Frederick Fox, which taught me how the couture and retail element of the millinery business worked. I now work from my small workshop in Winchester designing and making hats and jewellery and I aim to make all my clients feel special at a big occasion or wearing an individual piece which is unique to them.
I love working with upcycled materials as well as contemporary millinery fabrics and I browse charity shops and vintage markets for items which means the pieces have their own story. I enjoy working with clients to make the styles reflect their personalities and perfect for the occasion.
There are so many reasons why people still need hats and headpieces and I have been very lucky to have experienced working on the Lion King tour as well as designing for specific needs for clients with hair loss. I have recently started to work with upcycled jewellery using coins and vintage jewellery. I aim to use as many vintage and sustainable materials and processes as possible and use recycled garments such as leather jackets to make flowers and am focused on buying materials from hat material suppliers based in the U.K.
I also only buy feathers and other animal products from suppliers which are ethically responsible and only supply by products.
